Eidsiva,a Norwegian energy company group, announced its 2024 financial results, revealing a profit after tax of NOK 2,167 million,a decrease from the previous year’s NOK 3,605 million. While the overall group profit declined, Eidsiva Broadband, the company’s fiber optic internet and data center arm, achieved a significant milestone — surpassing one billion Norwegian kroner in turnover.
Milestone Achieved
“We had good progress in 2024, where we really established ourselves as an eastland company and not just an inland company,” stated Ola Børke, director of Eidsiva Broadband. The company’s growth is attributed to strategic acquisitions and expansion into new markets.
In 2024, eidsiva Broadband acquired 100% of Hafslund fiber, a fiber infrastructure provider in the Oslo area, significantly expanding its reach. Additionally, the company entered the data center market with the acquisition of an established data center in Gjøvik.
Focus on Local Development
Established in 2004, Eidsiva Broadband has been instrumental in bridging the digital divide in Norway’s inland regions. “We have been the biggest contributor to making sure that inland now has around 84% fiber coverage,” Børke emphasized. “The fiber network Eidsiva Broadband has expanded, corresponds to the length between Lillehammer and Brisbane in Australia and back. It is Norway’s third largest fiber network, and that infrastructure helps to make the inland very strong.”
Børke highlighted the importance of Eidsiva Broadband’s local ownership, noting that the company is owned by Eidsiva and ten other smaller energy companies inland. This structure ensures that profits are reinvested back into the region, fostering local economic development.
Looking Ahead
Eidsiva Broadband’s impressive growth trajectory demonstrates the increasing demand for reliable and high-speed internet, especially in rural areas. As the company continues to expand its network and services, it will play a vital role in connecting communities and businesses, driving economic growth and social progress in Norway’s inland regions.

An Interview with Ola Børke, Director of Eidsiva broadband
Congratulations on Eidsiva Broadband’s record-breaking turnover of over one billion Norwegian kroner in 2024. To what do you attribute this significant achievement?
“Thank you. We’re incredibly proud of this milestone. Our growth can be attributed to strategic acquisitions and expansion into new markets. In 2024, we acquired Hafslund fiber, boosting our fiber optic network coverage in the Oslo area. Additionally, we entered the data center market with our acquisition in Gjøvik. These strategic moves have greatly contributed to our success.”
Can you tell us more about your expansion strategy? How do you identify and pursue these key opportunities?
“Our strategy is focused on strategic partnerships and acquisitions that complement our existing network and services. we conduct thorough market analysis to identify gaps and opportunities. Once we’ve pinpointed a potential acquisition, we evaluate it’s strategic fit and potential for growth. The Hafslund fiber acquisition, for instance, not only expanded our reach but also strengthened our presence in an urban market.”
Eidsiva Broadband has been instrumental in bridging the digital divide in Norway’s inland regions. Can you discuss a particular challenge you’ve faced and how your team overcame it?
“One of our biggest challenges has been ensuring cost-effectiveness while expanding our fiber network to remote areas with low population density. To overcome this, we’ve focused on efficient planning, sharing infrastructure where possible, and leveraging government initiatives that support broadband expansion in rural areas. We’ve also made significant investments in our network operations center to ensure our network is reliable and well-managed.”
How does Eidsiva broadband’s local ownership structure benefit the regions it serves?
“Our local ownership structure ensures that profits are reinvested back into the region. This fosters economic growth and supports local communities. It also allows us to have a deep understanding of the unique needs of the regions we serve, enabling us to tailor our services and investments accordingly.”
Looking ahead, what are some of the key challenges and opportunities you foresee for Eidsiva Broadband?
“The increasing demand for high-speed internet and data center services presents both a challenge and an opportunity. To meet this demand, we’ll need to continuously invest in and upgrade our network infrastructure. We’re also exploring the potential of 5G technology and the Internet of Things (IoT).As for challenges, the regulatory surroundings and competition in the market will remain critical factors for our success.”
“But ultimately, we beleive that our dedication to our customers, our focus on local development, and our commitment to keeping pace with technological advancements will position us well to meet these challenges and opportunities.”
As Norway looks towards harnessing the power of digital technologies for enduring development, how can we ensure that no region is left behind in terms of connectivity?
“That’s a vital question. Public-private partnerships, targeted government initiatives, and collaborative strategies will be key. We also need to explore innovative solutions, like leveraging shadowspectrum or satellite internet for hard-to-reach areas. It’s crucial that we all work together to ensure that every community has access to high-speed internet.”
