Breaking: Houston Says Final Farewell To Dave Ward, A Local News Icon

HOUSTON – Houston is saying one final goodbye to Dave Ward, the legendary Anchor Emeritus who shaped generations of viewers for more than 50 years. The public farewell took place Friday, December 19.

The funeral service, open to the public, began at noon at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, Houston, TX 77056.

earlier in the week, a public visitation was held Thursday at George Lewis & Sons Funeral Directors as friends and colleagues paid their respects.

ABC13 memorabilia honoring Ward lined the display as attendees who knew him through a storied career came to pay tribute in person.

Ward died Saturday at the age of 86.

For decades, Ward anchored Houston newscasts, opening each edition wiht his signature line, “Good evening, friends.” His long-running presence earned him the moniker of Houston’s anchorman and a place in the city’s broadcast history.
