JAKARTA – Google announced a significant increase in the Factory Reset Protection (FRP) feature in the Android Show: I/O Edition, which will be present with Android 16 later this year. This feature is designed to lock the total stolen android devices, even if the thief tries to rearrange the factory (factory reset).
At present, FRP on Android has prevented the factory rearrangement without authentication, but the system can still be manipulated by perpetrators of crime. The latest version of the FRP will bring stronger protection, by blocking access to all device functions if it detects a suspicious reset.

“The device will be locked and cannot be used without entering the last password or credentials of Google’s account that is linked,” Google wrote in its explanation.
Although the technical details have not been distributed in full, the screenshots displayed indicate the notification that the phone is locked after the reset, and can only be restored by the original owner through the authentication process.
This feature will be present in the Stable version of the Android 16 update in June 2025, although it has not been seen in the Android 16 Beta 4.1. Google is expected to include it in the upcoming big release, the possibility of the last Quarterly Platform Release (QPR) this year.
In addition to improving security, Android 16 also carries a new design of 3 expressive material, which focuses on color, shape, size, movement, and readability – especially for elderly users. The new interface will be implemented to all default applications, including the clock application, which will display new fonts, lower device blades, as well as the display of alarm, timer, and stopwatch that is refreshed.
With this innovation, Google confirms its commitment to not only improve the experience of Android users, but also strengthen the security of the device to be more resistant to theft and abuse.
