UN calls on Taliban to reopen girls’ schools in Afghanistan

The United Nations called once more on the Taliban to take “urgent measures” to reopen secondary schools for girls in Afghanistan, considering that their closure a year ago was “shameful” and “unparalleled in the world”.

“Sunday marks one year since girls were excluded from secondary schools in Afghanistan. A year of lost knowledge and opportunities they will never find. Girls have their place in school and the Taliban must allow them to return,” UN Secretary-General António Guterres tweeted.

The United Nations confirms that “more than a million girls” between the ages of 12 and 18 were deprived of school during the past year, unlike boys whose schools opened on September 18.

Since their return to power, the Taliban have imposed severe restrictions on girls and women, effectively removing them from public life. Hardline Islamists have closed girls’ high schools in most states and prevented women from holding many government jobs. The hardline Islamist movement ordered women to wear the headscarf outside, preferably the burqa.

Lebanese actress Maguy Bou Ghosn published on her official Instagram page, photos and videos documenting the huge party that was held to celebrate her birthday on Friday night.

On the occasion of her birthday, the artist, Maguy Bou Ghosn, adopted a “glamorous look”, wearing a short light blue dress.

The Lebanese singer was seen cutting the cake that bore the initials of her name and fame, along with her husband, producer Jamal Sinan.

The ceremony was attended by her friends from the artistic and media community, including actors Ward Al-Khal, Carmen Lebbs, Bassem Mughniyeh, Karen Rizkallah, Fatima Al-Safi, artist Carlos Azar and director Philip Asmar. The star Nawal Al Zoghbi sang the most beautiful songs at the party.

Inside and outside the court… A film about the famous trial of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard

The British “Independent” website announced that the trial between Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard is set to become the subject of a new movie in the near future.

In details, the movie will be titled Hot Take: The Depp / Heard Trial, and will be broadcast exclusively on the Tubi streaming service.

Actor Mark Hapka will portray Johnny Depp in the upcoming film, which follows the former couple’s turbulent relationship on and off court. Actress Melissa Marty will play Depp’s attorney, Camille Vasquez, and Mary Carig will play Amber Heard’s attorney, Elaine Breedhoft.

The film, directed by Sarah Lohmann and written by Guy Nicolucci, is scheduled to be released on September 30 in the United States.

Depp is reported to have sued Heard for $50 million for allegedly mistreating her in an op-ed published by The Washington Post in 2018. The two-month trial ended on September 1, with the jury siding with Depp, finding that Heard had tarnished his reputation throughout the charges brought once morest her.
