A Stonecrest, Georgia, couple is living in fear after a harrowing dog attack on their property. The incident has left Michael Barnhill so shaken that he now carries a pistol every time he steps outside his home, highlighting the lasting impact of dog attacks.
Dog Attack Caught on Surveillance
Surveillance footage captured the alarming moment when three small dogs, belonging to a neighbor, charged onto Melody and Michael Barnhill’s front lawn and cornered them in their garage. The unprovoked dog attack unfolded on Memorial Day, leaving the couple traumatized.
The video shows two dogs, quickly followed by a third, darting toward Melody, chasing her into the garage as she screamed. The breed of the dogs remains unclear.
“I was just screaming at the top of my lungs,” Melody recounted.
Her husband, Michael, rushed to her defense. the footage shows him swinging a plastic watering can at two of the attacking dogs, shouting, “Get off her! Get off her!”

Serious Injuries Sustained
Despite Michael’s efforts, the dogs turned their aggression towards him, with a third dog joining the fray. “That’s when that one realy got into my leg. The second one came up,” he explained. Michael suffered serious injuries to his leg and groin. Doctors informed him that he was fortunate to have avoided bleeding out.
During the chaos, Melody attempted to retrieve her gun but was unable to effectively target the dogs.
The Barnhills reported that the dogs’ owner, a neighbor, witnessed the attack but did not intervene with any sense of urgency.Although animal services removed the dogs, they could not guarantee their return. Compounding the couple’s distress, the owner has not been cited for the incident.
“They should not be back. And the owners should be cited,” Melody insisted.
Furthermore, the couple was disturbed to learn from a county official that these same dogs had previously bitten someone in another neighborhood.
Fear and Vigilance
Now, Michael lives in a state of heightened alert, carrying a pistol whenever he leaves his home.”When I open up this garage, I gotta have my gun on my hip at all times because you don’t know what your going to walk into,” he stated.
Officials are currently investigating the incident.Attempts to reach the neighbor involved have been unsuccessful.
