Gharbia – Marwa Shaheen:
Today, Tuesday, a committee from the Ministry of Health visited Mahalla General Hospital to visit the wax baby to study his condition and to check on the quality of the medical service provided to him by the treating medical team.
The ministerial committee also inspected the medical services provided to patients in the various departments of the hospital, and their satisfaction with the health care provided to them.
Al-Mahalla General Hospital in Gharbia Governorate received a newborn baby covered with a layer of wax, which is scientifically called a “collodion baby”.
Specialists stated that the child’s condition is rare and is due to a genetic defect that leads to the skin covering a layer of wax, which affects the vital functions of the newborn.
Dr. Jamal Abu Shadi, Director of Al-Mahalla General Hospital, said that the hospital’s nursery received the newborn’s condition yesterday, and the required medical care was dealt with and received, adding that the medical staff is highly qualified in dealing with these cases.
Abu Shadi pointed out that this disease is immunological and affects the vital functions of the body and causes deterioration of the skin and eyes as a result of the presence of the layer called the “wax layer”, adding that the treatment of the matter depends on medical care for the skin and dealing with the symptoms that appear on the child with intensive and prompt medical care.
He added that this is the first case that Mahalla General Hospital receives for this type of disease, but it was not the first in Egypt, as other similar cases occurred.

What is the current protocol for people with coronavirus symptoms
Given the rise in positive cases of coronavirus, the health authorities recalled the protocol that people with symptoms must follow.
As highlighted by the Ministry of Health, the indication of Testing corresponds only to those over 50 years of age, with risk conditions or personal who works with vulnerable people.
If you do not belong to any of these groups and the symptoms are mild, you do not need to be tested, but you do need to take precautions that are the same for all respiratory diseases: not go to work activities, for at least five days, or until 24 hours following symptoms disappear.
It is also recommended extreme care for 10 days (adequate and permanent use of a chinstrap, adequate ventilation of environments, hand washing and respiratory hygiene, etc.).
Currently, if a person is a close contact, they do not need to be isolated or tested, they should only be attentive to whether they present symptoms and if they do, follow the indications according to age and condition.
For her part, the Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, stressed the need to reinforce vaccination: “From the week before this, the cases of COVID-19 doubled. 85% are in AMBA but the increase has been seen in 22 of the 24 jurisdictions Vaccination allows us to have a much lower impact on hospitalizations and deaths Reinforcing vaccine protection is the key: if more than four months have passed since your last dose, give yourself a booster, particularly if you are over 50 or you have a risk condition. Boosters continue to be the best way to prevent hospitalizations and deaths,” he said.
