García’s involvement with gangs began in her teenage years. “I started with a gang around 15 or 16. We were school friends, just hanging out… and that’s how it started. We make bread to be able to give people who reach here a second chance,” Torres stated.
For many, the opportunity offered by Homeboy Industries is truly life-saving. “I’m scared to think about what would have become of me if I hadn’t come here, because I don’t know where I would be. Maybe in jail or worse. This place saved my life,” García shared.
