Chile’s used car market closed 2025 with a 5% increase in average prices and over 142 million searches on the Chileautos platform, signaling a shift towards informed consumer decisions and a competitive alternative to rising new car costs.
The average price of a used vehicle rose from $17,527,519 Chilean pesos in 2024 to $18,396,548 pesos in 2025, according to the annual report from Chileautos. This increase is attributed to moderate inflation, exchange rate fluctuations, and higher costs for new vehicles, solidifying the used car market as a viable option for Chilean consumers.
Even as Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) continue to dominate search interest, accounting for 40% of all searches, pickup trucks are driving purchase intent. Six of the ten most searched-for models are pickups, with the Ford F-150, Toyota Hilux, and Chevrolet Silverado leading the rankings. “Pickups combine versatility, status, and capacity, making them a choice that appeals across different segments,” explained Inés Guitarte, CEO of Chileautos. “In more challenging economic times, buyers prioritize vehicles that can serve multiple purposes, and pickups fit that need.”
Toyota emerged as the most sought-after brand in 2025, capturing 13% of searches, closely followed by Chevrolet and Ford at 12% each. Suzuki and BMW tied for fifth place with 10% of searches, while Mazda and Hyundai each garnered 9%. Mercedes-Benz, Kia, and Volkswagen rounded out the top ten, each with 8%.
The report highlights a trend towards practicality, with hatchbacks and sedans experiencing price increases of around 5% and 3% respectively. SUVs, however, saw a slight price decrease, likely due to increased availability relative to demand. This suggests buyers are increasingly focused on efficiency and affordability, particularly for daily commutes and work-related activities.
Despite the popularity of SUVs in overall searches, the dominance of pickup trucks in specific model searches indicates a stronger purchase intention when consumers compare concrete options. Other frequently searched models include the Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Suzuki Swift, and Mazda3 Sport, demonstrating a balance between functionality, efficiency, and aspirational desires.
According to data from La Tercera, as of February 14, 2026, a new Toyota Corolla starts at $27,990,000 pesos, while a Toyota Hilux Cabina Doble is priced from $29,490,000 pesos. The Toyota RAV4 begins at $25,990,000 pesos. These prices underscore the economic incentive driving consumers towards the used car market.
Guarte expects a more stable market in 2026, with prices potentially normalizing due to a weakening dollar and a more moderate economic outlook.
