Dunedin, Florida is set to welcome a new dining experience this spring with the arrival of Tapas El Turco, a restaurant promising Turkish-inspired tapas, lively music, and an authentic shared dining experience. The restaurant, slated to open in April at 463 Grant St., aims to bring the sights, sounds, and flavors of the Mediterranean to the Tampa Bay area.
Owner Daryal Kafkasso Erdem, a professional musician and leader of the 12-piece ensemble Kafkasso, believes in the synergy between food and music. Erdem, who has established two other venue concepts in Tampa Bay, says Tapas El Turco is rooted in culture, music, and community. He highlighted Dunedin’s “vibrant energy, artistic roots and coastal charm” as making it an ideal location for the restaurant, noting the city’s “strong community spirit” aligns with his vision of shared dining.
Tapas El Turco will be open for both lunch and dinner, and will feature live entertainment on select evenings, including Flamenco and belly dancers. Erdem emphasized that “Live entertainment and music will be central to the atmosphere,” with original Mediterranean music performed by respected artists from the Tampa Bay area from Wednesday through Sunday, according to a recent report.
The concept of tapas, small plates designed for sharing, is central to the dining experience. The restaurant’s Instagram page describes it as a “Tapas style Turkish restaurant with Mediterranean Entertainment,” offering a glimpse into the culinary approach. Tapas El Turco’s Instagram account currently features 16 posts and has 158 followers as of February 23, 2026.
A Fusion of Culture and Cuisine
Erdem’s background as a musician deeply influences the restaurant’s concept. He founded the Kafkasso Group, and Tapas El Turco represents his third venue in the Tampa Bay area. The restaurant’s focus on shared dining is intended to foster a sense of community and cultural immersion. This approach reflects a growing trend in the culinary world, where restaurants are increasingly emphasizing experiences beyond just the food itself.
Dunedin’s Growing Restaurant Scene
Dunedin has become a popular destination for dining and entertainment, attracting both residents and tourists. The city’s downtown area is known for its eclectic mix of shops, art galleries, and restaurants. The arrival of Tapas El Turco adds another dimension to Dunedin’s culinary landscape, offering a unique Mediterranean flavor. The restaurant’s location on Grant Street places it in the heart of the downtown district, making it easily accessible to visitors.
The restaurant’s opening comes as interest in Mediterranean cuisine continues to grow across the United States. According to recent culinary trends, consumers are increasingly seeking out authentic and flavorful dining experiences. Tapas El Turco aims to capitalize on this trend by offering a unique and immersive culinary journey.
Looking Ahead
As Tapas El Turco prepares for its April opening, the restaurant is finalizing its menu and entertainment schedule. Erdem and his team are focused on creating a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere that celebrates Mediterranean culture and cuisine. The restaurant’s success will likely depend on its ability to deliver on its promise of an authentic and immersive dining experience. Further details regarding the grand opening and specific entertainment offerings are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
