KGM, formerly known as SsangYong, has introduced a new hybrid powertrain option for its Torres and Actyon models, aiming to provide a more fuel-efficient alternative without a significant price increase. The new DTH (Dual-Tech Hybrid) system combines a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 204 horsepower and 300 Newton-meters of torque.
The electric motor, capable of producing 130 kW on its own, functions as the primary power source, particularly during initial acceleration, offering a driving experience reminiscent of an electric vehicle. KGM emphasizes the system’s ability to generate its own energy through regenerative braking, eliminating the need for external charging and addressing range anxiety. Both models retain a 50-liter fuel tank.
Testing indicates the hybrid system delivers on its fuel efficiency promises. KGM states the Torres hybrid achieves a combined fuel consumption of 5.85 liters per 100 kilometers, a 2.6-liter improvement over the standard gasoline version. Real-world testing by Garáž.cz confirms these figures, with observed consumption reaching 6.2 liters per 100 kilometers in urban and rural areas, and 7 liters per 100 kilometers on the highway.
The cost of upgrading to the hybrid powertrain is 52,900 Czech Koruna (approximately $2,300 USD based on current exchange rates) for the Torres and 60,000 Czech Koruna (approximately $2,600 USD) for the Actyon. This pricing positions the hybrid models competitively. The Torres hybrid starts at 755,700 Czech Koruna (approximately $33,000 USD), while the Actyon hybrid begins at 919,900 Czech Koruna (approximately $40,000 USD).
The base model Torres comes equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, and a six-speaker audio system. The Actyon, in its base configuration, includes larger 20-inch wheels, a leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel and front seats (with ventilation), tinted windows, and adaptive cruise control.
KGM provides a standard factory warranty of 5 years or 100,000 kilometers on all models. The hybrid system’s battery is covered by an 8-year or 160,000-kilometer warranty, providing extended peace of mind for buyers.
