Indonesian Deputy Minister of Manpower Detained in Corruption Probe; Resignation Looms

Jakarta – Immanuel Ebenezer, Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Manpower, has been taken into custody by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) following allegations of extortion related too occupational safety management processes. The Indonesian Presidential Palace has signaled that Ebenezer will be promptly replaced if the accusations are proven true.

Allegations and Initial Response

The arrest of Deputy Minister Ebenezer, also known as Noel, unfolded as part of a coordinated operation by the KPK. Officials confirmed that the investigation centers around claims of extortion within the framework of K3 (Keselamatan dan Kesehatan Kerja – Occupational Safety and Health) certification. Prasetyo Hadi, the Minister of State Secretariat, stated that President prabowo Subianto has been briefed on the situation and has entrusted the KPK with a thorough and impartial investigation.

According to Hadi, the President respects the legal process and awaits the KPK’s findings. “If proven, a replacement will be made as quickly as possible,” he affirmed at a press conference held at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Friday, August 21, 2025.

Potential for Reshuffle and Interim Measures

Discussions are currently underway regarding the possibility of a cabinet reshuffle. however, officials also indicated that alternative measures, such as temporary assignments or the appointment of an ad interim replacement, are being considered. Prasetyo Hadi explained that established protocols exist for handling situations involving officials facing legal challenges, emphasizing that an immediate replacement isn’t always necessary.

Minister of Manpower’s Stance

Minister of Manpower Yassierli responded swiftly to the news of ebenezer’s arrest, unequivocally stating his commitment to a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption. Yassierli revealed that he had mandated all ministry officials to sign an Integrity Pact, committing to relinquish their positions should they engage in corrupt practices. This initiative extends to nearly 1,000 K3 service companies, aimed at preventing bribery and unethical behaviour within the certification process.

Evidence Confiscated

The KPK’s operation yielded significant evidence, including substantial amounts of cash, dozens of vehicles, and even a Ducati motorcycle. Fourteen individuals, including Deputy Minister ebenezer, were detained during the raid and are currently undergoing questioning at the KPK headquarters.
