Introducing Intermarché Express: The New Face of Former Casino Stores in France
2023-10-03 11:19:07
No longer call it Casino but Intermarché Express.
A total of 61 Casino stores across France will change brands in the coming days due to the financial difficulties encountered by the group specializing in food distribution. This is the case of the Debourg Casino supermarket, located in the 7th arrondissement.
The 2,180 m² store is currently closed to make way for an Intermarché Express. The sign is already visible to passers-by. The reopening is announced for October 16.
This is a first salvo of sale of Casino stores to Intermarché, all for a “business value of 209 million euros including service stations”. The second should take place during 2024 and concern 72 Casino stores.

National Strike Disruptions: Stay Informed on Transportation Disruptions in Belgium
2023-09-29 14:01:55
As the common front has called for a national strike, some of the staff of these companies might take part in the demonstration. The Stib management therefore expects disruptions all day in Brussels, without being able to estimate the extent of the movement at this stage. Travelers will be informed in real time on the company’s various communication media (social networks, apps, website, etc.)
In Wallonia, Tec also expects rough traffic. The company recommends anticipating trips by consulting the deleted routes which will be visible via the time search on the letec.be website and the Tec application from Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. Le Tec even advises providing an alternative to public transport.
In the north of the country, De Lijn indicates that tram and bus traffic throughout Flanders and in Brussels will be disrupted. It is currently developing adapted schedules which can be consulted Tuesday evening on its website.
For its part, SNCB has not yet communicated any possible disruptions. As a rally is planned in Brussels, it is possible that the staff of the national railway company will remain active in order to transport the activists to the capital. In the event of a strike, a minimum service system is set up anyway, depending on the willingness of staff to work.
The three unions (FGTB, CSC and CGSLB) and various civil society organizations are protesting once morest the proposed judicial ban on demonstrations. This ban threatens the democratic right to demonstrate, according to them. Several protest actions had already been organized before the summer.
At the beginning of July, the Justice Committee gave its approval to the bill from Minister of Justice Vincent Van Quickenborne “aimed at making justice more humane, faster and more punitive”. The bill includes a judicial ban on protests, giving judges the ability to ban rioters from protesting for a certain period of time. However, some fear that it might become a lever to also restrict peaceful demonstrations.
