Tilly turtle’s journey from the Australian coast until February 11, 2022. Two detours are observable: one detour as it headed towards Tonga, a second detour as it headed towards the Great Barrier Reef. These two path changes were followed by strong seismicities in the areas where the turtle was initially heading. © Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef
The Etna volcano, located on the Italian island of Sicily, erupted again yesterday. Three torrents of lava descended the slopes of the volcano for hundreds of meters and a cloud of smoke rose some 8,000 meters into the sky, according to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV).
In the evening, the INGV recorded strong tremors near the volcano. You could see thick plumes of smoke rising nearly ten kilometers into the air.
The eruption was over Friday morning, but a cloud of ash was still rising from the crater. Catania airport, at the foot of Mount Etna, remained operational.
Mount Etna erupted several times last year, with ash clouds causing minor damage to nearby villages and disrupting air traffic.
