For nearly two decades, Doan Thi Chinh, a dedicated educator, has quietly made a life-saving difference. Since her first blood donation in 2008, she has selflessly given 23 times, embodying a commitment to community health and compassion. Her consistent generosity recently earned her recognition among 29 exemplary blood donors honored by the provincial People’s Committee in 2025.
Chinh’s story isn’t about grand gestures, but rather a consistent, heartfelt belief in the power of small acts. “Giving blood isn’t a sizeable thing, it’s just a small act of kindness that can save a life,” she explained. This simple philosophy has sustained her dedication, inspiring those around her to join the cause of voluntary blood donation and contribute to a vital resource for those in need.
A First-Time Donor’s Apprehension Turns to Dedication
Chinh recalls her initial experience with blood donation as both nerve-wracking and memorable. “At first, I was exceptionally nervous, wondering if it would hurt,” she shared. “But when the needle started drawing blood, I realized the sensation was fleeting, not scary at all as I had imagined.” This positive first experience alleviated her anxieties and solidified her commitment to regular donations.
Her dedication hasn’t been without its challenges. During one donation drive, Chinh recounted an experience where a trainee phlebotomist struggled to find a suitable vein. “I participated in a blood collection drive. The person performing the blood draw was an intern, so relatively inexperienced. They couldn’t find the right vein in my first arm and had to switch to the other, but even there, finding the right vein proved hard. Both my arms had burst veins and turned purple. It took about a week for the bruises to disappear. It was a little painful, but thinking that my blood could help someone in need, these small discomforts didn’t bother me anymore.”
Inspiring a Community to Give
Chinh doesn’t just donate her own blood; she actively encourages her colleagues, family, and friends to do the same, fostering a spirit of compassion within her community. She understands the critical need for blood transfusions, particularly for patients battling serious illnesses and children facing life-threatening conditions. “I always reckon of patients with serious illnesses who need regular blood transfusions to survive, or unfortunate children who are seriously ill and cannot go to school like their peers,” she said. “These images create me realize that giving blood has even more meaning.”
Currently a teacher at Quang Trung Primary School, Chinh is the lead teacher for class 3A7. She is known for her innovative teaching methods and dedication to student development. According to Nguyen Thi Huyen, the principal of Quang Trung Primary School, “Ms. Chinh is not only a teacher with great professional competence, but as well a model of morality, virtue, and responsibility towards the community. She demonstrates constant dedication, creativity, and attention to her students, constantly innovating her teaching methods, being very attentive to each of them, and contributing to improving the quality of teaching within the school.”
A Commitment to Education and Compassion
With 16 years of experience in education, Chinh consistently strives to inspire her students through real-life stories and personal experiences, cultivating a sense of love and compassion. She is currently leading an innovative pedagogical experiment titled “Measures to develop students’ life skills through ethics teaching in 3rd grade.”
Chinh donates blood approximately every three months when she is healthy and able, viewing it not merely as a responsibility but as a genuine desire to contribute to those in need. Her consistent commitment serves as a powerful example of how individual actions can collectively make a significant impact on public health.
As Chinh continues her teaching career and her dedication to blood donation, her story serves as a reminder of the profound impact one person can have on their community. The ongoing need for blood donations remains critical, and individuals are encouraged to learn more about how they can contribute to this life-saving cause.
