Terrible fire at school’s girls’ hostel in Guyana; 20 female students died

A fire broke out in the hostel of Mahdia Secondary School in the South American country of Guyana, as a result of which 20 people lost their lives.

According to the World News Agency, a fire in a school dormitory in Guyana engulfed the entire building. The fire spread so fast that the students could not get out.

Residents of nearby villages tried to enter the hostel rooms to save the girls but could not enter due to the locked doors and strong iron bars on the windows.

Despite the suspension of transport due to heavy rains and bad weather, the officials of the rescue organization are continuing the relief work. 5 planes are also taking part in the relief operations, in which the seriously injured are being transferred to the major hospitals of the country.

The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained, but residents of the area say that before the fire, there was an electric shock and a spark. An inquiry committee was formed to investigate the incident.

According to the Ministry of Health, at least 20 female students died due to burns and suffocation in the fire, while the condition of more than a dozen others who are being provided medical assistance at a nearby hospital.

The President of Guyana, Irfan Ali, described the tragedy as a great disaster and painful, and said that the injured students will be given immediate medical assistance in the best hospitals in the country. Parents are being contacted.
