Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the most successful captain in the history of Indian cricket, announced his retirement in a video released on Instagram.
In the caption of the video, Dhoni has written that ‘Thank you! Thank you for your continued love and support. I shall be considered retired from 19:29 hrs.’
In the video, Dhoni combines images from the ups and downs of his career while the song ‘Main Pul Do Pul Ka Shaor Hoon’ plays in the background.
It should be noted that Mahendra Singh Dhoni is called the most successful captain of Indian cricket. He led India to 3 ICC trophies in his illustrious career, including the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 50 Over World Cup and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.
Dhoni’s last international match was in the World Cup 2019 semi-final against New Zealand in which India lost.
Dhoni wanted to retire after playing World T20 2020, but due to Corona, the event was postponed and his dream remained unfulfilled.
Dhoni retired from Test cricket in December 2014 but continued to play ODIs and T20Is.
The former Indian captain scored 4876 runs in 90 Test matches, 10773 runs in 350 One Day Internationals and 1617 runs in 98 T20 matches.
