The BAG reports 18,423 new cases +++ the number of patients in Bern hospitals is increasing again

In Switzerland and Liechtenstein, the Federal Office of Public Health FOPH reported 18,423 new coronavirus infections in 53,288 tests on Wednesday. At the same time, the BAG registered 15 new deaths and 174 hospital admissions.

On the same day a week ago, the BAG had received reports of 20,310 confirmed new infections, 140 hospital admissions and 17 deaths. The number of cases fell by 25.2 percent within a week. Hospital admissions decreased by 8.6 percent compared to the previous week.

There are currently 617 people in intensive care in the hospitals. The utilization of the intensive care units is currently 73.30 percent. 17.90 percent of the available beds are occupied by Covid-19 patients.

In the past four weeks, 7,783.85 laboratory-confirmed coronavirus infections have been reported for every 100,000 inhabitants. The reproduction number R, which indicates how many people an infected person infects on average, was 0.78 around ten days ago.

68.83 percent of the population in Switzerland are now fully vaccinated. Another 1.25 percent received a first dose. Of the population aged 12 and over, 77.97 percent are vaccinated. In addition, 41.31 percent of the general population and 75.79 percent of those over the age of 65 have received a so-called booster vaccination – a third or booster vaccination.
