November 2020 will mark the end of the eighth generation of consoles forever. Launched in February 2011 with the Nintendo 3DS, this generation of console took off in November 2013 with the release of the Xbox One and the PS4. The Nintendo Switch in March 2017 was thus the last console of this eighth generation, and we knew then that the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft were going to write a new page in the history of video games that has grown exponentially over the past 50 years.
“Available” since November 19 around the world, the PlayStation 5 perfectly launches this ninth generation with a fairly impressive record. Since yes, the new console of the Japanese brand has achieved the best launch of a game console in the history of gaming. With this very good start, the PS5 is determined to continue the incredible success of the PS4.
And precisely, to pay a last tribute to this PlayStation 4, on this last weekend of November 2020, the lemon squeezer team looks back on the (exclusive) games of this console which deliberately marked the history of the game. video.
Head of Tech / Hardware section at Presse-citron, Romain is also a player and on the PS4 side, he had many wonderful experiences between 2013 and 2020.
Uncharted : I got it with a limited edition of my PS4. I’m very into quests and adventures, I found the spirit of the first Tomb Raider that I was a fan of with the power of the PS4.
The Last Of Us (Part.I & Part.II) : Two masterpieces for me. As much graphically as in the gameplay it is clean. But it is especially the story that I loved. What a scenario!
Ghost of Tsushima : There are a lot of things that I don’t like about this game. The combat phases are not crazy, the course is quite repetitive, the AI is a bit crazy, but it’s such a contemplative game. Everything is magnificent in this game. And the management of movements with the wind is a genius idea.
Days Gone : Here again, a game that is not flawless, often repetitive. But I was a fan of The Walking Dead and the character of Daryl. I admit that playing a character like him, who travels on a motorbike and who kills zombies in abundance, I liked it all the same.
Spider-Man : Well, this is probably my favorite game on PS4. Already because I’m a fan of “Spidey”, but also because we really have the feeling of being Spiderman. It’s also sometimes repetitive, there are a lot of side quests, but it’s such a pleasure to fly between the buildings. A real kiff!
Megaman at night. But high-tech editor, and specialized in the video games section at Presse-citron by day, Stéphane is naturally a great player and passionate. Here are the best experiences he has on PS4.
Uncharted 4 : Launched in 2016, Uncharted 4 is still quite a technical slap in the face, and a show of force from Naughty Dog.
God of War : Impossible to evoke the PS4 without the “new” God of War. A real overhaul of the license, the game signed Santa Monica Studios is a model of perfection, both in substance and in form. Can’t wait for more!
Bloodborne : Exclusive to PS4, Bloodborne is a demanding title, very punitive, but which also knows how to reward the most persevering players. We obviously hope that a sequel will see the light of day on PS5.
The Last of Us Part.II : Available for just a few months, The Last of Us 2 on PS4, it was the next-gen before its time. A visually stunning title, with particularly clear scriptwriting choices, and a breathtaking adventure from the first to the last minute.
Tearaway Unfolded : Not necessarily very well known to the general public, the Tearaway license is a real breath of fresh air, and this PS4 opus is a pure marvel. A colorful title, full of humor and (above all) good ideas, and which takes full advantage of the capabilities of the PS4.
Writer specializing in video games alongside Stephane, I am also a big fan of this medium and I naturally spent countless hours on the PS4 to discover the exclusives of the firm. If I had to remember only five …
inFamous Second Son : Not a big fan of Cole in the first two inFamous on PS3, I didn’t expect much with inFamous Second Son in 2014, a few months after the PS4 was released. And what a slap! I didn’t see it coming, but the game was a nice gift from the Sucker Punch teams (Sly Cooper, Ghost of Tsushima…). Nice graphically, really nice in terms of gameplay with a story and quality characters… I want a sequel!
Until Dawn : That one I didn’t see it coming either. But it is a huge favorite of the summer of 2015. A good survival-horror game as we rarely do these days. Intense, with a lot of suspense, the game offered a multitude of choices and different endings to save all the characters (or to condemn them all). A real treat !
Detroit Become Human : Work of the French from Quantic Dream, Detroit Become Human is a narrative game very inspired by cinema (like all the studio’s productions like Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls or even Fahrenheit). But with Detroit, Quantic Dream really offers a strong story that questions a lot of things and allows us to question our future. A masterpiece !
The Last Of Us Part.II : The adventures of Joël and Ellie had already marked everyone on PS3 in June 2013. We were so impatient to find them. It took seven years, but the slap was even greater. With this Part.II, Naughty Dog offers us an incredible game with an overwhelming narrative. A game that will put your nerves and your limits to the test. Great art.
Uncharted 4 A Thief’s End : But what a slap! These three words could be enough to speak of Uncharted 4. The culmination of nine years of adventures for Nate, Sully or even Elena. A dazzling end, as much on the side of the script, the narration or the staging. But also technically with a game that was literally ahead of its time and which is still today one of the most beautiful games in terms of graphics and animation.
