International Day of Information about Albinism
The International Day of Information about Albinism is observed annually on June 13. Initiated by the UN in December 2014, this day aims
to raise awareness about albinism—a rare genetic difference characterized by a lack of melanin pigment in the hair, skin, and eyes.
This condition exposes individuals to vulnerabilities such as significant vision problems and heightened risks of skin cancer,
exacerbated by sunlight and bright light exposure. The holiday seeks to highlight that people with albinism possess equal rights
with all humans, dispelling harmful myths and superstitions that often lead to discrimination and violence.
Orthodox Commemoration: Memorial Day of the Martyr Erimi
Today, Orthodox Christians remember the martyr Erimi of the Command. According to legend, Erimi lived in the 2nd century in the city
of Laodicea. For years, he served in the Roman army but secretly professed Christianity. Upon Emperor Antoninus Pius ordering the
persecution of Christians, Erimi was apprehended and tortured. However, he miraculously remained unharmed. When the torturers were
blinded, Erimi healed them with his divine intervention. Eventually, the governor himself executed Erimi on learning of these events.
Christians secretly buried the martyr, preserving his legacy as a beacon of faith and endurance.
