The London-born musician joined the Cure in 1984 as a roadie and Robert Smith’s guitar technician, later earning a full-time role after the departure of keyboardist Roger O’Donnell six years later.
Bamonte contributed to the band’s chart-topping 1992 album Wish, performing on keyboards and guitar and laying down six-string bass on “Friday I’m in Love.” He went on to perform with the group in more than 400 shows and on additional Cure albums, including Wild Mood Swings and Bloodflowers.
He left the band in 2005 but rejoined in 2022, taking part in the Shows of a Lost World tour.
In 2019, Bamonte was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside his Cure bandmates.
