Riga’s Daile Theater is gearing up for a dynamic new season, promising a compelling mix of thought-provoking drama and international collaboration. Already boasting a strong August lineup of popular performances, the theater officially launches its new season on September 5th with Tom Trein’s production of “Nachtland.”
“Nachtland,” based on the work of acclaimed German author Marius von Maienburg, delves into the uncomfortable truths that can fracture families when faced with tough choices between morality, justice, and financial gain. The play centers around a seemingly worthless landscape painting discovered in a family attic, which unexpectedly becomes a multi-million dollar sensation – and a source of intense conflict – when the artist’s identity is revealed. It’s a story about how a single object can unravel a family’s carefully constructed past.
September is shaping up to be a month of premieres at the Daile Theater, with tickets already available for several highly anticipated productions.
On September 19th, the theater will host the latvian premiere of “Oracle,” a groundbreaking international collaboration between the Daile Theater and Polish director Lukasz Twarkowski.
“Oracle” is being hailed as one of the most enterprising international theater projects in the Baltic region. The production is part of the prestigious Rura Triennial programme and premiered on August 28th in Duisburg, Germany.
This large-scale production is a collaborative effort involving several European partners, including Rura Triennial, NewError, Geneva Comedy De Genève, Milan’s Piccolo Teatro di Milano, and Antwerp’s “de Singel” theater. The play’s dramaturgy was developed during an international residency with Complicité Mudlarks, supported by Complicité Theater and the Polish Institute in London.
Adding to the excitement, September 20th marks the grand opening of the Daile Theater’s new hall, with the premiere of director Matisse Kaza’s production, “Anarchist’s Death.”
The Daile Theater plans to unveil further details about its all-season program at a dedicated press conference scheduled for the end of August. Theatergoers can expect a season filled with compelling narratives and innovative productions.
