Faced with the recent spread of monkeypox in Europe and the United States, the South Korean health authorities claimed to have set up a detection system to counter a possible appearance of this virus on the territory.

The Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) explained yesterday that it had already completed the development and evaluation of monkeypox screening reagents and tests in 2016.

The KDCA added that no cases have yet been identified in the country, but the possibility of the presence of this virus cannot be ruled out due to the increase in foreign travel and the period relatively long incubation of the disease.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the lethality rate of monkeypox is currently between 3 and 6%.
