The director of a Uruguayan school broke more than 500 figurines from the World Cup album belonging to two children and was charged with a crime of private violencethat is, those cases in which threats or violence are used to make another person behave in a certain way.
Despite the fact that the Justice law provides for penalties ranging from 3 months to 3 years in prison for this type of crime, the man was able to agree to repair damages with the victims. In addition to reinstate the damaged figurines, the director promised to apologize to the children at the end of the year ceremonycarried out this Thursday.
“This instance is to apologize to the fifth and sixth year children, especially Ramiro and Lucas”, he said in the speech recorded by Telemundo.
“It was a moment of impulse. Until now I don’t know why I did it. I might not return the figurines at that moment due to the break, but I have already delivered them with the corresponding apology and I am also at your service for any concerns. The only thing that remains for me to say to both Lucas and Ramiro, and to my classmates in fifth and sixth grade, is once once more a thousand apologies and happy holidays to all”, concluded the director of School No. 17, located in the department of Artigas.
In addition to the apologies and the reinstatement of the figurines -both actions already carried out-, the man will be subjected to psychological and psychiatric analysis.
The case
The complaint was made by the parents of the children -9 and 12 years old- in November of this year, when Uruguay was still continuing with the World Cup dream.
Apparently, the children left class to go to the bathroom and, once outside, they stayed playing “tapadita”. Noticing the situation, the director confiscated the figurines and broke them in front of the minors.
As explained by the prosecutor Teresita Vernego and Subryado, the man showed remorse and acknowledged having acted in this way: “He said that he was very upset by work and that is why he did that. We are all human and we all make mistakes, the issue is that there were victims who were children.
Meanwhile, the prosecutor assured that if the man complies with the agreement, in 6 months the crime will be exempted.
