A dispute between the German supermarket chain Edica and the American food giant Kluge, which produces Corn Flakes, has escalated over the rise in prices of the popular breakfast cereal following a compensation lawsuit was filed once morest the American company.

Edeka said that this lawsuit aims to compensate for the loss of profits and consumers, without disclosing the amount of compensation.

However, according to the consumer goods newspaper Lebensmittel Zeitung, the compensation amounts initially to regarding 10 million euros ($10.6 million), rising to 34 million euros by mid-2024 if Cluj continues to fail to fulfill its obligations.

Popular cereal brands such as Corn Flakes and Fruit Loops are seen in the food industry as being so beloved by consumers that they get all their groceries elsewhere if their favorite breakfast foods are not available.

Edeka says Cluj wants to increase prices by up to 45%. The department store chain reportedly partially approved the orders, but Cluj did not resume deliveries, contrary to Edeka’s expectations.
