In the Xinying District of Tainan City, Taiwan, a case of infant abuse was reported. A baby boy who had just turned one month was beaten, kicked, whipped with a belt and even suffocated on the head with a quilt by his father Xie on Monday (2nd). The baby boy was scarred, and his mother notified his grandmother to assist the police. When Xie Nan abused once more that day, he was discovered by the police on the spot and taken away for investigation. He was transferred to the prosecution on Tuesday (3rd) and applied for permission to detain.
After receiving the report, the police arrived at the scene to investigate, and then sent the boy to the hospital for treatment. The doctor found that his liver index was too high and his chest was bruised. After hospitalization, his life was not in danger. The baby boy is the child of Xie Nan and his second wife. Xie Nan has a previous conviction for beating his ex-wife and children. The reason why Xie Nan abused the child this time was that the child looked very much like his grandfather.
Tainan City Government Social Affairs Bureau intervened in the investigation, and social workers went to Xie’s house to visit the baby boy’s mother and 6-year-old and 2-year-old daughters. Police said an emergency protection order has been granted in the case, and the two young girls are being cared for by their grandparents and grandmother. Police on Tuesday transferred Xie Nan to the Tainan District Prosecutor’s Office for investigation on charges of violating domestic violence laws and child abuse.
