The ice cream pot is finally back in Munich!
EHC Red Bull has brought the ice hockey championship back to the Isar following five years. The Red Bulls won the fifth playoff game 3:1 (EHC goals: Kastner/13th minute, Eder/52nd, Varejcka/58th – Ronning scored for the ERC to make it 0:1/7.). The Munich team thus prevailed 4-1 in the “Best of Seven” series of the first Bavarian final in DEL history.
Captain Patrick Hager held up the trophy in the rain of gold. Even record master coach Don Jackson (66) showed emotions. With the championship cap on his head, the American, who won his ninth German championship title, said: “Every title is emotional and unbelievable. It’s always a tough job.” After 2016, 2017 and 2018, it was his fourth championship with the EHC.
When the ice surface was stormed by the Munich fans and turned into a huge party zone, Hager had to take the silver trophy to safety in the locker room.
Red Bull boss Christian Winkler: “Now we’re going to celebrate today and tomorrow. Then we have one-on-one talks and then on Sunday is the big championship celebration.”
The most important topic in the talks will be how things will continue with the coach.

BILD has already reported that ex-national coach Toni Söderholm (44) is in discussion. But Winkler says: “If you saw Don in Finale, even older men can jump like a young deer. For goalkeeper Mathias Niederberger it was a very special championship because it was his personal treble. Before that, he won the title twice in a row with the Berlin polar bears. “I’m incredibly proud of myself and the team. It’s an incredible feeling,” he said.
