The FIQ gives “a chance for conciliation” in the labor conflict between it and the government

Meeting in an extraordinary federal council until late Wednesday evening, the delegates of the Fédération interprofessionnelle de la santé du Québec (FIQ) ruled: they are giving “a chance for conciliation” and say they are ready to negotiate throughout the holiday season. .

According to the union, no date was determined during this council for the launching of an indefinite general strike. The FIQ specifies, however, that its 80,000 members — the majority nurses — voted for an unlimited general strike, and that the right to trigger it will be exercised “at the appropriate time.”

Another extraordinary federal council must be held “soon following the holidays” and focus on progress in negotiations with Quebec. The union party must provide 10 working days’ notice to the employer before proceeding with a walkout.

The Quebec Minister of Labor, Jean Boulet, announced Tuesday the appointment of a conciliator, following the FIQ had requested one.

About a week ago, Prime Minister François Legault described negotiations with health sector employees as “very, very difficult”. The president of the Treasury Board, Sonia LeBel, for her part indicated that the negotiations with the FIQ were “more complex” than the others.
