New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid said that Rahul Gandhi is the first name the party is considering for the post of Congress president. He also said that Rahul will be forced to take over the presidency if he returns from abroad.
“The party is talking regarding Rahul Gandhi first. There is no change in that. It is unclear whether our request will be accepted. He has not given any hint in that regard. Will try to persuade when coming from abroad. Rahul has the support of everyone in the party,” Khurshid said.
AICC president election is on October 17. Counting of votes will be held on 19th. The decision was taken in the Congress Working Committee meeting. The notification will be released on September 27. The last date for submission of nominations is September 30. The candidate list will be published on October 8. Campaigning can be done from that day till October 16.
The party working committee met under the chairmanship of Sonia Gandhi. Sonia was accompanied by Rahul and Priyanka who attended the meeting online.
