According to Judit Jánky, the 42-year-old man was working on the evening of August 10, 2022, at the Zalaegerszeg site of his workplace dealing with steel transport. Since the beginning of January 2021, the man has been performing duties as a forklift driver, regularly transporting bundled rebar with a forklift. That evening, he worked overtime and took his two minor children with him to the site. The man lifted a 12-meter-long, more than 2-ton rebar bundle with the forklift, but he did not secure the load in accordance with the regulations. Before starting to lift, move and transport the bundled rebar with the forklift, he did not make sure that there were no other persons in the vicinity of the lifting machine. The man started off with the forklift and noticed that his five-year-old son was in the reach of the forklift. At the same time, however, the moved load slid sideways to the right, tore the securing strap, causing the forklift to tip over onto its side and the metal frame of the lifter’s operating area fell on the child standing near the forklift, who suffered such severe skull injuries as a result of the accident that he died following being transported to the hospital lost it.
The cause of the accident was that the man improperly secured the load of the forklift and, in violation of the rules of his occupation, did not make sure in a safe way whether there were other people in the vicinity of the power machine he was operating.
