Hamas, the Palestinian resistance movement fighting the Israeli army in Gaza, has backed away from its demand for an early ceasefire in Gaza to free Israeli hostages and accepted a US proposal for talks on the release of prisoners.
According to the international news agency “Reuters”, Hamas has accepted the US proposal to start negotiations for the release of all hostages, including Israeli soldiers, as part of the first phase of the agreement to end the Gaza war.

A senior Hamas leader told Reuters on condition of anonymity that Hamas had dropped its demand that Israel first sign a permanent cease-fire agreement, then release the prisoners.

The Hamas official said that under the new plan, the mediators would guarantee a temporary ceasefire in Gaza, the delivery of aid and the withdrawal of Israeli troops while indirect negotiations continue to implement the second phase of the deal.
In addition, Hamas rejected the arrival and deployment of foreign forces in Gaza under any name and justification.
