Dubai:World Champion Ding Liren, former champions Magnus Carlsen and Viswanathan Anand will play in the first Global Chess League. The matches will be held in Dubai from June 21 to July 2.
Six franchise teams compete in the league. Each team will have six players. It should have at least two female players. There will also be an icon star.
Carlson, Liren, Anand and Poland’s Jan Kristof Duda are the iconic players. The two iconic stars will be announced later. Russian Grandmaster Alexander Grischuk, France’s Maxime Lagrave and China’s Heu Yifan will participate.
The matches are on round robin league basis. Each team will have ten games. The two teams with the most points will play in the finals. The Chess League is run by FIDE and Indian company Tech Mahindra.
