Immigration groups on the border of the United States and Mexico inaugurated this Wednesday, April 17, the Human Rights Center of Eagle Pass (Texas) to inform migrants regarding their rights in the face of the threat of a new law that allows the expulsion of foreigners by of state authorities and that lends itself to racial discrimination.

Representatives of migrant support organizations joined the initiative of the Lutheran Church to create a space dedicated to information on constitutional rights due to the SB4 law, which For now it has been challenged in the judicial courts and has not come into force.

“We are living one of the most difficult moments in the history of Texas due to the constant attack on human and civil rights, they tell us that we are invaders, but there is already an important light in the face of the darkness that exists,” said Fernando García, of the Border Network in El Paso (Texas).

Regarding SB4, Pastor Julio Vásquez, of San Lucas Lutheran Church, said that “It is an unconstitutional law that harms with its racist profile and therefore harms this community.”

He indicated that the Human Rights Center will offer guidance to migrants and the population in general.

With the installation of the center, it is expected that more pro-immigrant groups will join, including defense lawyers, in addition to coordinated work in some cases with the Mexican consulate in Eagle Pass.
