Meng Wanzhou, Huawei’s vice chairman and chief financial officer, was released and returned to China in September last year, ending a three-year detention in Canada. Member of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Vice Minister Xie Feng disclosed more details in the series of party class programs “Party Classes Begin” jointly launched by the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Central Radio and Television Station last Thursday:
Xie Feng said that in July 2021, he will hold talks with U.S. State Department Deputy Secretary of State Sherman in Tianjin. During the talks, China presented two lists to the U.S., one asking the U.S. to correct its erroneous policies, words and deeds toward China, and the other a list of key cases that China is concerned regarding. Both lists include Meng Wanzhou’s content.
In the list of corrections, China urges the US to unconditionally lift sanctions on Chinese leaders, officials, and government departments, lift visa restrictions on Chinese students, stop suppressing Chinese companies, and withdraw Meng Wanzhou’s extradition. As for the list of key cases, the first is the acquittal of Meng Wanzhou, and the remaining cases include the refusal of visas for Chinese students to go to the United States, and the unfair treatment of Chinese citizens in the United States. China requires the US to resolve the issue as soon as possible and earnestly respect and protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens and institutions.
