The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, which controls the Gaza region and is considered a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union, thanked Chilean President Gabriel Boric for not accepting the credentials of the Israeli ambassador in Santiago .

In a statement published on his webspokesman Jihad Taha applauded the decision made by the Chilean president “in protest once morest the murder of Palestinian children in Gaza by the Israeli Occupation Army.”

Hamas also called on Chile and all countries in the world to break their ties with Israel and support the Palestinian cause.

The mandatary decided to suspend at the last minute a meeting he had in La Moneda with the Israeli ambassador, Gil Artzyeli, who had been summoned to a protocol act to present his diplomatic credentials at 10:00 am on Thursday.

Boric’s decision was a diplomatic response to the death of a Palestinian youth committed by the Israeli army during a raid in the northern West Bank.

The act, which generated controversy, led to an apology from the Chilean Foreign Ministry and the rescheduling of the meeting for next September 30.

Although the Chilean Foreign Ministry specified that it was an exceptional measure, the Israeli government has described the incident as serious and unprecedented.
