The Lack of Democracy in Europe: Serbian Football Coach Fired for Birthday Congratulatory Message to Russian President

2023-10-11 10:56:00

The situation with the dismissal of the Serbian football coach of the mini-football club Vladimir Jovanovic in Estonia following his congratulations on the birthday of Russian President Vladimir Putin speaks of the lack of democracy in Europe. The former coach himself spoke regarding this.

“I still can’t believe it! I was fired 20 minutes following President Putin congratulated me. <…> Can’t I say “happy birthday” to you or the whole planet? These are human rights. If I don’t have them, then where is democracy?” – Vladimir Yovanovitch was indignant in a conversation with Sport24.

The ex-coach noted that his post did not contain any calls to support terrorism. He also admitted that his views are more conservative than those of most Europeans.

Earlier, the head of the Viimsi club, Andrei Golovin, announced Jovanovic’s dismissal. According to him, the head coach of the team can’t behave like that during a Russian special operation. At the same time, Yovanovitch himself stated that he regretted being fired.
