The Minister of Communications answers • Al Marsad newspaper

Al-Marsad newspaper: The Minister of Communications, Abdullah Al-Sawaha, commented on a question regarding blocking communication in the “WhatsApp” application, and whether citizens will be allowed to communicate in the near future.

Al-Sawaha said during his hosting of the “Al-Liwan” program, with the media, “Abdullah Al-Mudaifer”, that he was the one who took the decision to open the applications with the approval and support of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Al-Sawaha added: I am with you in opening applications, but in the end, the sovereignty of the homeland and the security of the homeland is a red line, adding: Companies that do not respect the sovereignty and security of the country will not cooperate with them, no one is above the homeland.

Al-Sawaha set a condition for cooperation with these companies, saying: “If they comply with the blessed hour, we will open it tomorrow,” noting that communications are already available in the Kingdom and the opening of 20 applications.

Al-Mudaifer inquired of the minister’s words, saying: Do you consider this a message for WhatsApp? He replied that it is a message for all companies.
