The components of the National Coordination for the Education Sector are expected to welcome the summer vacation with a sit-in in front of the headquarters of the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, in solidarity with the teachers suspended from work due to their participation in strikes against the basic system.
In this context, the coordination announced its continued solidarity with the concerned teachers by holding a partial sit-in in front of the ministry’s headquarters in the capital, Rabat, on Thursday, August 1, 2024.
In a statement, the coordination called on working and retired teachers, as well as all detainees, to participate in this protest, in order to confront the “policy of procrastination pursued by the ministry with a vengeful background against the educational movement as a whole.”
The Education Coordination criticized the ministry’s “resort to arbitrary and illegal arrests instead of responding to the demands raised, some of which date back more than two decades,” adding that “this revenge went through stages, the last of which was the continued detention of seven people.”
The same source criticised “the emergence of a more dangerous policy of revenge”, which is “depriving some suspended professors of their right to medical treatment, such as the case of the professor who suffered a health problem that required open-heart surgery, and other professors who need medical treatment for their children, which threatens their right to life.”
In light of this situation, the components of the National Coordination for Education renewed their demand that Minister Chakib Benmoussa “withdraw all arbitrary and unjust decisions and penalties issued against all detainees, including warnings, reprimands, and exclusion from work for specific periods, and enable them to exercise their rights and settle their administrative and financial situations.”
The National Coordination concluded by stressing that the reasons for the educational movement “still exist in light of the disregard for settling pending files and implementing previous agreements for many of the active and retired educational categories,” referring in this regard to “the victims of the 2003/1985 systems before 2012 and after 2012 and the file of those excluded and those excluded from outside the ladder, retirees and active workers, and those demanding promotion with administrative and financial effect according to the 2011 agreement.”
Among the pending files referred to by the educational coordination is also “the file of retired educational administration cadres excluded from outside the scale and from the educational administrator framework and educational, social and administrative support cadres and teachers and specialized cadres who were forced to sign contracts.”
Accordingly, the National Coordination for the Education Sector called for “accelerating the implementation of all previously signed agreements (2011 – 2022 – 2023 – 2024),” stressing its demand to “generalize the general wage increase and benefit from the supplementary compensation and increase in retirees’ pensions.”
