UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 19, 2022 (Xinhua) The Security Council on Wednesday welcomed the agreement between Lebanon and Israel on settling their maritime border dispute.

In a press statement, the members of the Security Council commended the statements that Lebanon and Israel had agreed to end their dispute over the maritime borders and to delineate them permanently.

The statement stated, “This is a major step that will contribute to the stability, security and prosperity of the region. It will also benefit the two countries and their peoples, and will allow both sides to benefit from the energy resources of the eastern Mediterranean in an equitable manner.”

On October 11, the leaders of Lebanon and Israel announced that the two countries had agreed to resolve their decades-old dispute over maritime borders in the eastern Mediterranean.
