Dubai: The Sharjah Book Authority withdrew from the Frankfurt Book Fair following canceling the award announced to the Palestinian writer. The Liberation Prize awarded to Palestinian writer Adania Shibali has been canceled citing the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The award was announced for the novel ‘Minor Detail’, which tells the story of a Palestinian girl.

The authority said that the withdrawal is due to the position that culture and books are meant to understand and interact with each other. The organizers initially said that the decision to cancel the literature award was made following consultation with the writer, but later changed the decision. A later explanation that now is not the time to celebrate the award.

Adania Shibali’s Minor Detail is a book that has been nominated for the International Booker Prize. This work was released in German last year.
