The shooting in Copenhagen .. “many dead and wounded” and the police do not rule out a “terrorist act”

Danish police said that the shooting, which took place on Sunday followingnoon, inside a shopping center in Copenhagen resulted in “several dead and wounded”.

Copenhagen Police Chief Soren Thomassen said at a press conference that the suspect arrested earlier by police is a 22-year-old “Danish”, who was arrested near the “Fields” shopping center in the southern suburbs of the capital.

“We know that there are many dead” and “many wounded,” the security official added, adding that terrorism might not be “excluded.”

He added: “We have no information that others are involved. That is what we know now.”

Copenhagen Mayor Sophie Andersen wrote on Twitter: “There are horrific reports of shootings in Fields. We do not yet know for sure how many people have been injured or killed, but it is very serious.”

Pictures from the scene showed people fleeing the mall, and Denmark’s TV Channel Two broadcast a picture of a man on a stretcher. Witnesses said people were crying and hiding in stores.

A witness named Loritz Hermansen told Danish TV DR that he was in a clothing store in the shopping center with his family when he heard three to four cracks. It really was a loud bang. It looked like shots were being fired next to the store.”

There was a heavy presence of heavily armed police, with several fire engines parked outside the mall.

The shopping center is located on the outskirts of Copenhagen, opposite the underground line that connects the city center with the international airport. Next to the Fields also goes by a major highway.
