Bern (awp/ats) – The SSR is opposed to the reduction in the radio and television license fee proposed by the Federal Council. Such a measure would have very significant repercussions on the program and on staff, she warns, counting on the elimination of around 900 positions by 2027.

The gradual reduction in staff would concern all sites, including regional studios, the SSR wrote on Monday.

The Federal Council has sent for consultation until February 1 its countermeasures to the initiative calling for a reduction in the fee to 200 Swiss francs per year, compared to 335 Swiss francs currently.

In its response to the consultation, the SSR considers that the reduction in the media license proposed by the government would have serious consequences. If we also take into account the decline in revenue, the SSR would show a shortfall of 240 million Swiss francs per year from 2027. From 2025, “the execution of the service mandate would be threatened”.
