The suspicious death of a two-year-old girl in Meeffe, in the entity of Wasseiges, was noted on Wednesday in a Liège hospital, we can read on Saturday in Editions de l’Avenir.
According to the daily, the little girl’s stepfather allegedly beat her at the family home. Taken to hospital on Tuesday, the child died there the next day. The acts were allegedly committed in public housing located on rue des Fontaines, in Meeffe.
An autopsy on the child’s body is expected to be carried out in the coming days. A judicial investigation has been opened.
It was still unknown at the end of the week whether a suspect had been arrested.
The Liège public prosecutor’s office did not wish to comment on the facts. “The investigating judge in charge of the case prefers that we not communicate at this stage,” said spokesperson Catherine Collignon on Saturday morning to the Belga agency.
