The unbridled success of cars without a license – Le Journal du weekend

They only go 45 km/h, but on the road they look great. With their small city look, they appeal to new drivers. Seniors, but especially teenagers, like 17-year-old Oleg Le Proust. More than 16,000 cars without a license are sold each year in France and half are bought by parents, who consider them safer than a scooter. It takes 14,000 euros all the same, for this used model without a license, but not without an option. For ten years, Renault, Citroën, Toyota, Aixam or Ligier, all manufacturers have been targeting teenagers. Today, the license-free industry is growing and French manufacturers dominate. In a factory, located in Vichy, 16,000 vehicles are manufactured each year. This is twice as many as ten years ago. A success that can be explained by its engines, which are always more discreet. From the age of fourteen, you can drive these cars with the AM license. It is obtained following a day of training, without passing any code or driving test. On the other hand, if you were born before 1988, you do not need it. Old-fashioned yesterday, connected today, the cart no longer makes you smile, it makes you want to. Acclaimed by those who have lost their permits, and those who have not yet. TF1 | Report JM Bagayoko, D. Pires, T. Valtat
