The US killed the leader of Al Qaeda in Afghanistan

They used drones for the attack.

The United States successfully targeted al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in a drone strike, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.

Zawahiri, who had just turned 71, remained a visible international symbol of the group, 11 years following the United States killed Osama bin Laden.

At one point he acted as Osama bin Laden’s personal physician.

White House officials refused to confirm that Al Zawahri was killed, The Associated Press reported, but noted in a statement that “the United States has conducted a counterterrorism operation once morest a significant Al Qaeda target in Afghanistan. The operation was successful and there were no civilian casualties.”

President Joe Biden is expected to release more details regarding the operation in a speech Monday night.
