The “Virrey” Carlos Bianchi was chosen as “The Libertadores man” in the preview of the final
The Argentine coach Carlos Bianchi, four-time champion of America, was chosen as the most important man in the history of the Copa Libertadores, followed by the Boca idol Juan Román Riquelme, following a selection carried out by the Brazilian press with 60 journalists from South America. In this context, the Brazilian newspaper O Globo consulted 60 journalists and proposed to them to choose the five most outstanding men in the history of South America’s top club trophy.

Bianchi, the only coach to have won the trophy four times (with Vélez in 1994 and with Boca in 2000, 2001 and 2003) added 173 points, followed by Riquelme, the player with the most votes, with 169, following being three-time Libertadores champion with Boca, and third was the all-time top scorer of the contest, the Ecuadorian Alberto Spencer, from Peñarol, with 81 votes.
