The Yuzu emulator is to be shut down and the company behind it to pay 25 million to Nintendo

And all copies of the emulator are destroyed.

A week ago we wrote regarding Nintendo suing the creators behind the Switch emulator Yuzu, and the case has now already been settled. Grossly simplified, you can say that both parties have agreed to that Yuzu should be shut down and that the company that the creators started to handle it all should pay 2.4 million dollars to Nintendo, equivalent to almost 25 million kroner.

However, it is unclear how much money is actually in the company, and on paper it does not appear that the people behind it will be personally liable to pay, but that the company will simply be declared bankrupt.

Ultimately, the court held that Yuzu is primarily designed to “bypass technological measures” to play Nintendo Switch games, relying on Nintendo’s proprietary cryptographic keys to function.

Those involved are now banned from working with Nintendo emulators, and according to the law, all copies of Yuzu must be destroyed, however practicable. Now the question many are asking is whether Nintendo intends to act once morest other Switch emulators.

The whole thing also leads to the 3DS emulator Citra being shut down, because the same people are behind it.
