Theo Bongonda Abandons European Ambitions: A Closer Look at His Move to Spartak Moscow in the Russian Championship

2023-07-07 20:00:00

Despite a full season with Cadiz, Théo Bongonda abandons his great European ambitions and heads… to the Russian championship and Spartak Moscow.

twelve months ago, Theo Bongonda left a yet ambitious Racing Genk and joined Cadiz, one of the smallest forces in La Liga, to satisfy his desire to evolve in one of the five major European championships.

This season, the Congolese international has started 24 times in the league, has more than 2,000 minutes of playing time but has never really been able to improve his statistics: three goals and four assists, in all competitions.

As we mentioned to you at the end of last week, the provocative winger was in big discussions with … Spartak Moscow. This Friday, the transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri announces that the transfer… is complete.

Against all expectations, Bongonda therefore left LaLiga following only one season and joined the Russian championship. The Spanish formation, 14th in the late championship, will receive compensation of around €7.2m, plus €2m in bonuses. The Congolese, who signed a three-year contract, will fly this Saturday evening to Russia in order to pass his medical examination before being formalized at the beginning of next week.
