The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Argentine diplomat Rafael Grossi, visited Thursday the facilities of the School of Nuclear Medicine Foundation (Fuesmen) in the capital of Mendoza and highlighted the work of that organization as a “precursor and center of reference in the field of nuclear medicine”.

Grossi also praised the work carried out by Fuesmen “as a trainer of human resources, as a cradle for research and promotion of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes”, as well as “as a precursor and reference center in the field of nuclear medicine”.

According to the foundation directed by Rodolfo Montero, Grossi urged “not to stop innovating” and “committed the support of the organization to continue developing current joint projects, as well as advancing in new ones that have an impact on a better quality of life for the people”.

“Argentina has been selected as one of the countries where the IAEA will allocate resources to enhance nuclear medicine capabilities using centers such as Fuesmen, which has equipment and experience but the intention is to reach more beneficiaries,” the agency reported.

The director general of the IAEA and Argentine diplomat was accompanied by authorities from the National Atomic Energy Commission and the Foreign Ministry.

At the end of the meeting, a visit was made to the positron emission tomography (PET) and radiotherapy services, and the work that will house the new cyclotron.

“This will allow not only to increase the amount of material needed to carry out a PET study, but it will also make it easier to develop some new ones for a specific use,” explained the press release.
