The mayor of Maracaibo, Rafael Ramírez Colina, was arrested on October 1 by alleged officials of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin) in the state of Zulia. Sources confirmed to the EFE agency that other municipal officials were also arrested, such as the director of Citizen Security, David Barroso, and two members of his team.

The event occurred in the Villa Carmen mansion, a historic building on Bellavista Avenue for cultural use, and which would currently be taken over by Sebin. Likewise, unofficial reports indicate that the fifth detainee would be the general director of the Mayor’s Office, Betty Ramos.

The arrest occurs days after the arrest of the head of the mayor’s office, Pedro Guanipawho is also the brother of the Primero Justicia leaders Juan Pablo and Tomás Guanipa. This party, in which Ramírez also plays, has not yet officially commented on the incident.
