The thieves of a municipal truck found themselves stuck on Wednesday evening in the countryside of Lillois-Witterzée, in the entity of Braine-l’Alleud, we learned on Thursday from the Walloon Brabant prosecutor’s office.

Brainois police officers were called to intervene on Wednesday around 11 p.m. in rue Raymond Lebleux where a municipal truck was obstructing the road, preventing motorists from passing. The vehicle had in fact just been stolen from the neighboring municipal depot. Criminals scaled the perimeter fence before stealing a dump truck which they loaded with various materials and construction equipment.

To leave the site, the driver backed into the fence gate to break it down. He succeeded on the second attempt. The truck nevertheless crossed the road and came to a stop with its rear wheels in a field. The bad weather of recent days and the waterlogged countryside have been detrimental to the criminals who were forced to abandon the mired vehicle and its cargo. The suspects fled on foot. An investigation is underway to try to identify them.
